Dear Janusz,
Many thanks for your kind letter of January 9.
I delayed answering it, because I hoped to be of actual
help.
I have the black and white still shots that the film makers took
of the mountain after the accident, and I hoped that computer processing
would confirm or deny their identification of the location of the bodies
of our wives. Unfortunately, the experts tell me that computer processing
is unlikely to do that, and the identification remains just plausible.
The color pictures from the movie may give a more convincing result, and
Dyanna Taylor said she would send you a copy of the print. If we get
anything more, I'll inform you.
As for the commemorative plaque, there is something. Vera's
will requested that if she didn't die on a mountain that she be buried
in the plot where she buried her mother, and that has the inscription
in Russian %AMIR PRAHU TVOEMU%1, and I think this might be what she
would have liked. Her dates should be included also, and she was born
Feb. 15, 1932. Her full name is Vera Alexander Watson Mccarthy.
I wish you all success, but I hope you won't take more chances
than all mountaineers take.
I hope you are recovering from the shock, and I hope Mr. and Mrs.
Chadwick are also. I am also replying now to Mr. Chadwick's letter.
